Veilig Verkeer Nederland is organizing “Car” refresher courses for people aged 50 and older in Voorschoten

This fall, Veilig Verkeer Nederland, in collaboration with the municipality of Voorschoten, is organizing two VVN “Car” refresher courses. The refresher courses are being held on behalf of the Holland-Rijnland region and are specifically for Voorschoten residents aged 50 and older. The courses are free of charge—and a lot of fun, too!

Everyone wants to keep doing their own grocery shopping for as long as possible—or to easily visit a friend or family member. As long as you can continue to do this, you have your freedom. But at the same time, as the years go by, driving may start to require a lot of your attention. How can you ensure that you remain safe on the road for as long as possible? Anyone who has ever wondered about this can take part in the VVN “Car” Refresher Course offered by Veilig Verkeer Nederland.

Course Content

During the refresher course, in addition to traffic rules, the instructors focus primarily on factors that affect driving ability. Participants actively engage with topics that can cause problems when participating in traffic, such as changing physical abilities, common accident factors, and traffic situations. Attention is given to personal challenges and how they affect road safety. Participants are provided with tools to help them cope with these challenges.

The course consists of two two-hour sessions and takes place in an informal setting. Through group discussions, questions, and assignments, participants become aware of traffic safety and their own role in it. In addition, an individual practical driving session (entirely optional) is offered under the supervision of a certified driving instructor.
