Your questions about fiber-optic internet in the municipality of Voorschoten
As a municipality, we believe it is important for our town to be attractive to both residents and businesses. Installing a fiber-optic network contributes to this. With a reliable and stable network, you can work, hold meetings, and relax—at home, at the office, or anywhere else. In this post, we’ll update you on the current status in Voorschoten.
The installation of a fiber-optic network is governed by Chapter 5 of the Telecommunications Act. This is an open market in which providers are allowed to compete with one another. As a municipality, we have little influence over these initiatives. In fact, we are required to allow the installation to proceed. However, we do make agreements to minimize disruption.
Providers are therefore free to compete. But while we, as a municipality, do not want to stand in the way of healthy competition, there may still be times when we respond to questions or concerns raised by our residents. After all, together we are building a great community. That is why we are happy to answer your questions about the various providers.
DELTA has been canceled
Over the past few months, fiber-optic provider DELTA has organized information sessions, opened an information center, and distributed brochures. DELTA employees have begun conducting site surveys, visiting residents to determine the location of their connections. Residents have also been able to sign up for service.
DELTA recently informed us that it will not be proceeding with the installation in Voorschoten. As a result, all agreements are automatically canceled. T-Mobile and Open Dutch Fiber Move Forward
Another provider, T-Mobile, has also announced plans to build a fiber-optic network throughout Voorschoten. T-Mobile is doing this in partnership with Open Dutch Fiber. As a municipality, we have already granted these providers the necessary permits. T-Mobile and Open Dutch Fiber will communicate directly about the construction.
The costs of installation in public spaces will be covered in full by T-Mobile and Open Dutch Fiber. Where the providers are working, the street will be dug up for about two days. Homes will remain accessible at all times. You decide for yourself whether to participate in the installation. If a representative comes to your home, be sure to ask to see proof of identification.
