Your Rights and Responsibilities
If you come to apply for social assistance benefits, we’ll talk with you first. Because if you’re able to work, you must work. We’ll therefore ask you to provide documentation of all your job search activities. If, even with the municipality’s help, you’re unable to find work, we’ll process your application for social assistance benefits.
What are your obligations when you apply for welfare benefits?
You must:
- be registered as a job seeker with UWV WERKbedrijf;
- take care of your own needs as much as possible;
- to apply for all kinds of regular jobs;
- participate in the support programs offered by the municipality, such as a job-search course;
- Provide the municipality with the correct information. For example, if you start living with a partner, you must report this. This is because it affects the amount of your benefits.
- to cooperate with home visits and psychological and medical examinations if the municipality deems it necessary;
- Report a stay abroad or request permission for one. Read more aboutStaying Abroad and Receiving Benefits.
