Transportation of Hazardous Substances
- It is prohibited to transport, load, or unload hazardous materials within the municipality.
- In the Netherlands, certain hazardous substances are subject to mandatory routing requirements. Some municipalities and provinces indicate the mandatory route with traffic signs. You can obtain information about these routes from your local or regional fire department.
- If you wish to deviate from the mandatory route within the municipality—for example, to load or unload—you must apply for an exemption from the municipality.
What should I do?
You must apply for the exemption with the municipality. Please include the following information with your application:
- the substances you wish to transport and in what quantities
- the loading or unloading location within the municipality
- the desired route
- the time of transport
- your company's name
- Approval of the vehicle by the National Road Traffic Authority (RDW)
- Your permit and driver's certificate for the transport of hazardous materials
