Traffic Safety in the Municipality, Report
What is it?
To improve road safety in urban areas, 30 km/h zones have been established. Speed bumps, road narrowing, and narrow lanes are designed to slow down traffic. This mainly applies to residential areas, shopping districts, schools, and other places where there are many pedestrians, cyclists, and children.
Report unsafe traffic situations to the municipality. In addition to the 30 km/h zones, there are also 60 km/h zones. These zones are also established to improve road safety. 60 km/h zones are always located outside urban areas, but are often under the municipality’s jurisdiction. In 60 km/h zones, there are also speed bumps, road narrowings, and narrower lanes to slow down traffic.
What should I do?
If there is an unsafe traffic situation, you can report it to the municipality. Please include the following information: • The exact location • The reason for your report If you believe the municipality should designate your street or neighborhood as a 30 km/h zone, it is best to submit this request jointly with your neighbors. In addition to the municipality, there are other road authorities within the municipality’s boundaries, such as Rijkswaterstaat and the province. These road authorities implement measures to slow down traffic. If you’re not sure who the road authority is, you can ask the municipality.
The municipality frequently receives requests to install repeat signs within a 30 km/h zone, but it is reluctant to do so. Each situation will be reviewed to determine whether a repeat sign or a warning sign would improve traffic safety.
How long does it take?

DigiD stands for Digital Identity and is used to conduct business with a (semi)governmental organization online. Anyone who has a citizen service number (BSN number) and is registered in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP) can apply for a DigiD.
