Launch of the 2040 Environmental Vision

On Thursday, April 11, the city council approved the approach for the 2040 Environmental Vision. The vision aims to answer the question of what we need to do to ensure that Voorschoten remains a pleasant village in the long term, where everyone can enjoy living, working, and spending their free time. What kind of village do we want to be in 2040?

Every municipality must adopt an environmental vision. An environmental vision is a long-term, broad-brush vision for the entire physical living environment. This includes housing, the residential environment, traffic, and transportation.

Fragmented

Currently, many policies are often fragmented and scattered across various policy plans. As a result, there is a lack of oversight, and sometimes the plans conflict with one another. The integrated environmental vision ensures coherence. The year 2040 may seem far off. Yet the choices we make now will influence the future development of our village.

Public participation is a key part of developing the environmental vision. Over the coming months, we’ll be engaging in dialogue with residents, business owners, and partners. What do you like about the village right now? What do you feel is missing in Voorschoten? How can we ensure you continue to enjoy living and/or working here?

In the coming weeks, you will see municipal employees at various locations throughout the village. You can also respond to a survey that will be posted on the municipal website.

The vision must be ready by September 2025.
