René van der Heijden Receives the "Pearl of Voorschoten" Award

René van der Heijden (78) received a “Pearl of Voorschoten” award this afternoon. René is the founder of the Stolpersteine project in Voorschoten and a volunteer at the Fire Department Museum. Mayor Nadine Stemerdink presented the award at City Hall.

René received the award for his volunteer work on behalf of the Voorschoten community, particularly for his research into the stories of Jewish, Roma, and Sinti families in our village during World War II and his initiative to install Stolpersteine in Voorschoten. His wife, daughter, and two grandsons were also present at the award ceremony.
