A relatively quiet New Year's Eve in Voorschoten
New Year's Eve in Voorschoten passed relatively quietly. Between 22:00 and 05:00, the fire department received one report of an outdoor fire. Earlier in the evening, an unexploded Cobra 20 led to the closure of the area around the De Vliethorst sports hall. The police in our village reported two incidents related to New Year's Eve.

The emergency services in the Hollands Midden Safety Region, of which Voorschoten is a part, have had a busy New Year's Eve. In several municipalities, they had to take action repeatedly. The regional picture was busier than the previous year, mainly due to a number of major incidents occurring simultaneously. In addition, the majority of the fire department's deployments, as in previous years, consisted of extinguishing waste and container fires.
Intensive collaboration
During New Year's Eve, emergency services worked together intensively. In preparation, municipalities, police, fire department, ambulance service, and environmental services anticipated various scenarios together. Additional personnel were deployed at the dispatch center to handle the increased number of reports during New Year's Eve.
The largest deployment of emergency services took place in Hillegom and twice in Leiden. There, a very large fire in a commercial building, a very large fire in a historic building in the city center, and a large fire in a residence broke out respectively. These fires occurred simultaneously, requiring an extra-large effort from the emergency services.
Thanks for the effort
Mayor Nadine Stemerdink is pleased that New Year's Eve in Voorschoten passed relatively quietly. "Thanks to the municipal enforcement officers (BOAs), the police, and the fire department, upon whom we could count as always. And of course, also to the outdoor staff employees, who have already done an incredible amount of work over the past few days and early this morning."
