Reconstruction of the Leidseweg-Bachlaan and Leidseweg-Mozartlaan Intersections
The municipality is going to redesign the Leidseweg-Bachlaan and Leidseweg-Mozartlaan intersections. The goal is to improve traffic safety and visibility, especially for cyclists and pedestrians. They will soon be able to cross more easily and safely.

What's going to happen?
- The approach speed at the Leidseweg intersection will be reduced by installing speed bumps.
- The road is slightly shifted on one side to alert road users that they are approaching an intersection.
- The current right-of-way situation is confusing. One option is to eliminate the pedestrian traffic lights and remove the crosswalks on Leidseweg.
- Instead, there will be clearly marked crosswalks with more space for pedestrians and cyclists to line up.
- Another option involving traffic lights is also being further developed.
- The redesign will require the removal of a few trees, but new trees will also be planted, and the area around the intersections will be landscaped to be greener.
Participation
On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, an open house was held where local residents and stakeholders could view the preliminary designs for the intersections, ask questions, and share their concerns with the project team. The meeting was well attended, and while valuable suggestions were made, critical comments were also raised. We take these comments seriously and will incorporate them into the next steps of the design process. To that end, a discussion evening will be held on Tuesday, December 16, during which several variations on the preliminary designs will be presented.
Stakeholders such as the Fietsersbond, emergency services, and bus companies are participating in these consultations. Their input covers topics including accessibility, traffic safety, and the phasing of implementation. Their recommendations will also be incorporated into the further design.
Planning
Work is expected to begin in 2026.
