City Council Approves Four Mobile Homes on Korte Vliet
The Voorschoten City Council decided yesterday that there will be not two, but four mobile homes on the peninsula along the Korte Vliet. With this decision, the municipality is fulfilling its housing obligations toward mobile home residents.
Voorschoten’s only mobile home is located on Leidseweg. Because the new Segaar-Arsenaal residential neighborhood is planned for that site, the municipality sought an alternative location. In September 2023, the city council selected the peninsula on the Korte Vliet. Two natural gas-free mobile homes will be installed there in about half a year.
At last night’s meeting, the city council decided that two more mobile homes will be added in about two years, ensuring that the municipality provides a sufficient number of mobile homes in Voorschoten. This obligation stems, among other things, from a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights. A recent ruling by the District Court of The Hague on May 29, 2024, reaffirmed this.
On January 22, the housing association De Sleutels and the municipality of Voorschoten signed a letter of intent. The signatories will jointly investigate whether the housing association can purchase and manage the planned mobile homes on Korte Vliet. If the investigation yields positive results, the residents will rent the mobile homes and their lots from De Sleutels.
Careful integration
The arrival of four sites for mobile homes means that the location must be prepared for construction. This will take place in February, well before the breeding season. The ground will then need time to become sufficiently stable to support the mobile homes that will be placed there. The municipality is once again inviting stakeholders to participate in discussions regarding the final green integration of the sites and the mobile homes.
