On June 14, 2018, the council approved the sale of three properties. An open bidding process was followed for this purpose. The properties were sold to Niersman Projectontwikkeling B.V. One of these properties is the former school building at Professor Einsteinlaan 5. The project developer has submitted a development proposal to build residential units at this location. In 2020, the municipality adopted a preliminary memorandum setting out the municipal guidelines for plan development.

Current Status

The old school building has been demolished, and Niersman Project Development is currently building 17 private-sector single-family homes (for rent), 1 private-sector rental apartment, and 6 public-housing rental apartments.

Background

On June 14, 2018, the council approved the sale of three properties following a public bidding process. The properties were sold to Niersman Projectontwikkeling B.V. One of these properties is the former school building at Professor Einsteinlaan 5. 
The project developer has submitted a development proposal to build residential units at this location. In 2020, the municipality adopted a preliminary memorandum setting out the municipal guidelines for plan development.

On February 1, 2024, the city council unanimously approved the Declaration of No Objections. This means that objections to the plans could be filed with the court until early April. On May 15, 2024, it was announced that no objections had been filed against this new housing development. As a result, the environmental permit is now final. In practical terms, this means that developer and builder Niersman can proceed with the preparation and construction of these new homes. Niersman Project Development has named this housing development “Vossenburght.”

Participation

In September 2020, an informational afternoon was held for local residents. The developer, Niersman, and the architect explained the preliminary plans and asked local residents to share their suggestions and preferences regarding the plans.
