Exhumation and reburial or cremation

If you wish to rebury a deceased person in another location or proceed with cremation, the deceased must first be exhumed. This is only permitted if you:

  • authorisation have obtained permission from the person(s) entitled to the grave
  • have a " licence " from the municipality

What to do?

  • You can apply for the " licence " from the municipality. You can do this either within 2 months of the funeral or at least 10 years afterward.
  • You can also have this handled by a funeral director.
