Excavation

Excavation means digging into the ground and thereby lowering its level. This applies to land (ground level) and the seabed. In the process, you remove a layer of soil such as clay, peat, sand, or gravel. Examples of excavation include:

sand mining
water storage
nature conservation

Anyone who plans to excavate the ground needs an excavation permit.

What should I do?

Discuss your plans with the municipality first. The municipality can tell you who is responsible for the land you want to excavate. This may be Rijkswaterstaat or the province.
Next, apply for the permit through the Omgevingsloket website at . In some cases, you do not need to apply for a permit; you only need to file a notification.
