Dutch Safety Board Publishes Final Report on the Voorschoten Train Accident
On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, around half past three in the morning, a train accident occurred near Voorschoten station. A crane on lorries, crossing the track after scheduled maintenance work, was struck by a freight train and subsequently by an intercity train. The Dutch Safety Board investigated the train accident. Today, it published its final report.
The Dutch Safety Board sought answers to the following questions: How was the crane able to leave the work site and end up on a track that was in service, where it was struck first by a freight train and then by a passenger train? And: How are workplace and rail safety taken into account in the planning and execution of track work while train traffic continues, and what is the internal and external re supervision ?
