Job Search Assistance

If you are unemployed and receiving further training through a career guidance program, you can apply for reimbursement for a training program or course that improves your chances of finding a job. You can apply for reimbursement for:

  • course fees and tuition
  • costs for study materials (such as books)
  • exam fees
  • travel expenses
  • child care costs

The municipality works with the UWV to help people find work. If you are unemployed and not eligible for unemployment benefits, you can register with the UWV. The UWV will work with you to determine what kind of work you are suited for. 

What should I do?

First, contact your case manager, client manager, or the municipality.

The municipality can pay the costs directly to the school. However, sometimes you’ll have to pay the expenses yourself first and will be reimbursed later. Be sure to keep all receipts, invoices, and expense reports.  

Register with the UWV

Next, you must register with the UWV. Sometimes you’ll need to make an appointment, and sometimes you can register onlineonly . Fill out the online form using your DigiD.

Create a Work Plan

The UWV can work with you to develop a work plan. This plan outlines what you will do to increase your chances of finding a paid job. This might include job application training, educational programs, or work experience. The plan also specifies the timeframe within which you will complete these steps.

You, your UWV employment coach, and, if applicable, the municipality will sign this work plan.

Exemption from the requirement to apply for a job

If you are receiving benefits, you must apply for jobs. Sometimes you are not required to apply for jobs, for example, if you are gaining work experience or doing volunteer work. Always discuss this with your employment coach first.

If you do not comply with the terms of the agreement, the municipality may require you to apply for jobs again. The municipality may also reduce or suspend your benefits.
