New Partnership Focused on Heritage in Voorschoten
The Friends of Voorschoten and the municipality are joining forces to breathe new life into the experience of heritage. The former role of the Local Heritage Platform (LEP) will be carried forward by a new platform established by the Friends of Voorschoten: the “Heritage Development Committee.”
The new committee brings together residents, heritage property owners, the museum, and experts from various policy fields to collaborate with the municipality. Together, they promote projects and ideas that link heritage to societal challenges, such as sustainability and climate adaptation. The municipality also provides financial support for the initiative.
Four themes
“The committee focuses on four themes,” explains Alderman Hans van der Elst. “Research, education, and publication; restoration and development of cultural heritage; events and marketing; and strategy and policy. The fourth theme is intended to serve as a sounding board for the municipality. I wish the committee members every success and, above all, a lot of enjoyment in their work.”
Treaty of Faro
This collaboration is in line with the Faro Convention, which views heritage as a source of social value. The convention places people and society at the center of their relationship with heritage. Twenty-five European countries have already signed the convention, including the Netherlands.
