New podcast from the Municipality of Voorschoten is now live
Stories and testimonies from the past and present in Voorschoten, as told by residents and local experts. That’s the focus of the new podcast series “Stories from Voorschoten.” The first three episodes cover World War II and 80 years of freedom. Starting today, the first episode is available on Spotify and the municipality’s website.
“Stories from Voorschoten” is the go-to podcast for any resident curious about the rich history and special moments that make Voorschoten what it is. Each episode offers a fresh perspective with personal stories, significant events, and ordinary moments from everyday life. The episodes are available for anyone to listen to for free at any time.
The Fear of Going Into Hiding
The first three episodes focus on World War II and 80 years of freedom. In the episode “Jewish Woman in Hiding,” Hetty van den Berg talks about her beloved Aunt Lewise, who lived in Voorschoten and was arrested and deported from her home on Oranjekade. Last spring, the first Stolpersteine were laid at that address. Hetty has fond memories of staying overnight at her aunt’s house, but she has not forgotten the fear of going into hiding and wearing the Star of David.
Festive Cheer
The residents of the Topaz Foreschate assisted living facility can still vividly recall the liberation. Jet planes flying overhead, little flags, and exuberant celebrations. What a contrast to the months and years that preceded it. In the episode “War and Liberation,” which will be available soon, the residents talk about both the festive celebrations and the moments of fear.
