Follow-up Care Following a Train Accident in Voorschoten
This morning around 3:25 a.m., an accident occurred in Voorschoten involving a passenger train, a freight train, and a construction crane. One person was killed and 19 passengers were injured. In the coming days, the focus will be on supporting those affected and restoring the rail line.
In the early morning of April 4, for reasons that remain unknown, a passenger train and a freight train collided with a construction crane. Immediately after the accident, emergency response efforts began, with firefighters, police, and ambulances arriving from across the country. Shocked local residents also rushed to the victims’ aid, including by taking them into their homes.
Meetings
Tomorrow, local residents will receive an invitation to a private meeting. Anyone who wishes to attend can share their experiences and offer each other support. In addition to Mayor Nadine Stemerdink, several experts from the crisis response team will be present to answer questions. Next week, there will be a private meeting for the many first responders who have been working tirelessly.
Road Closure
An investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident is still underway. The area therefore remains cordoned off. In the coming days, the wreckage will be recovered and the road will be repaired. If it becomes necessary to close roads, the municipality will provide detour signs and issue separate announcements on its website, social media, and in newspapers.

The City Council extends its sympathies to the victims and their families and friends who were involved in the accident. We are saddened and shocked, but at the same time impressed by our residents’ willingness to take action.
