Counterfeit Goods Found During Comprehensive Inspection of Garage Units

In two of the ten garage units, the inspection team found a large quantity of luxury-brand perfume. An inspector from the React Anti-Counterfeiting Foundation came to the site to assess whether the perfume was counterfeit. As a result, they seized more than 3,100 bottles of perfume. React will conduct a further investigation and initiate civil proceedings against the dealer.

Risks to Safety and Public Health

“With counterfeit goods, there is absolutely no oversight of manufacturers or the conditions under which the goods are produced,” says Mayor Nadine Stemerdink. “This poses risks to safety and public health. Moreover, the trade in counterfeit goods often serves as a cover for criminal activities, such as underground banking and money laundering. I am glad that, thanks to comprehensive oversight, this perfume will not be released onto the market.”

Administrative Intervention Team

Comprehensive inspections are conducted by the Voorschoten municipal government’s administrative intervention team. Through these inspections, the municipality aims to prevent illegal goods and hazardous substances from being stored in residential areas. They are also intended to verify compliance with building and fire safety regulations, environmental regulations, and the zoning plan, among other things. The Leiden-Zuid Police Department was present to provide support.
