Nadine Stemerdink Inaugurated as the New Mayor of Voorschoten

Tonight, Nadine Stemerdink was sworn in as the new mayor of Voorschoten. The ceremony took place during a special council meeting at Duivenvoorde Castle. There, she received the mayoral chain and gavel from Acting Mayor Charlie Aptroot. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, most guests attended digitally via a special “video wall.” Anyone interested could follow the inauguration via a livestream.

On March 22, the chair of the selection committee, Katrien van Meenen, announced that Nadine Stemerdink had been recommended by the council as the new mayor. The “ municipal council ” sought a new mayor who is a decisive leader with a warm heart for the community, a figurehead for the village and the new municipal organization, and a driving force for cooperation in the region. Katrien van Meenen: “We look forward to taking the first steps together to make Voorschoten not only a beautiful place to live but also a model of a vibrant, independent village within a closely cooperating Leiden region.” Acting Mayor Aptroot said to his successor: “I congratulate Mayor Stemerdink on Voorschoten and Voorschoten on its new mayor. It will be a great combination for the next six years and beyond.”

Nadine Stemerdink is eager to get started: “First and foremost, of course, I’d like to thank municipal council for the trust they’ve placed in me. I look forward to getting to know the residents, business owners, and organizations. In the coming period, we’ll be working hard on, among other things, building our own municipal administration and further improving our services. In addition, as a strong, independent municipality, Voorschoten will actively contribute to regional cooperation with the Leiden region.”
