Nadine Stemerdink Recommended as New Mayor

The “ municipal council ” recommends Nadine Stemerdink as the new mayor of Voorschoten. Katrien van Meenen, chair of the selection committee, announced this during a public council meeting on Monday, March 22, 2021.

The “ municipal council ” sought in the new mayor a decisive leader with a warm heart for the community, a figurehead for the village and the new municipal organization, and a driving force for regional cooperation.

The “ municipal council ” sees Nadine Stemerdink as the ideal mayor. She knows Voorschoten and the region well. She easily bridges the gap between what’s happening on a personal and neighborhood level and what’s taking place in broader administrative contexts. Nadine Stemerdink is empathetic, positive, a proven team player, and has infectious enthusiasm.

Nadine Stemerdink is now the “ Alderman ” in Leidschendam-Voorburg, where she previously served as a council member (PvdA). Before that, she held various positions, including senior policy advisor at the Office of the King’s Commissioner in the province of South Holland. As “ Alderman ,” she has experience in areas relevant to the mayor, such as public order and safety, and human resources and organization.

Appointment in May

The recommendation of the Voorschoten City Council is submitted to the Minister of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. Following the nomination, the minister will hold an interview with the mayoral candidate. The appointment becomes final once the Royal Decree has been signed by the King and the minister. The new mayor is expected to be sworn in by the King’s Commissioner on May 17 in Voorschoten.
