Authorization to Vote

Can't vote yourself on March 18? Don't let your vote go to waste. Instead, authorize someone to vote on your behalf. 

The person you authorize may:

  • Cast your vote only at the same time as he casts his own vote.
  • Do not accept more than 2 powers of attorney.

Granting Authorization Using Your Voting Card

Using your voting card, you can only authorize someone who lives in Voorschoten:

  • Fill out the back of your voter registration card. You will receive it by mail at the end of February.
  • Both of you should sign the voting card.

The person you authorize must bring the following when voting:

  • Your completed and signed voting card.
  • (A copy of) your ID. This can also be on a smartphone or tablet.

Request a Written Power of Attorney

Does your proxy not live in Voorschoten? If so, you can request a written proxy. To do so, send a written request to the mayor of Voorschoten. The mayor must receive this request no later than five days before the election.

You will each fill out a section of the form. Your proxy may cast the proxy vote only at the same time as his or her own vote.

Authorize Online

You can also authorize someone online. To do so, log in with your DigiD and fill out the form: Authorize Someone Online.

Make sure the municipality receives your application by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13, at the latest.

The person you are authorizing:

  • You will receive a proxy form. This allows that person to vote on your behalf.
  • You do not need to show your ID when voting.

Voting in Another Municipality

It is not possible to vote in another municipality during municipal elections.

It is best to submit your application well before March 13. That way, you’ll have a better chance of receiving your authorization in the mail on time.
