Candlelight Evening on Friday, December 8, at Rosenburgh Cemetery
As the year draws to a close, we often find ourselves thinking back on our departed loved ones. The need to feel close to that one special person is especially strong at this time. That’s why the Municipality of Voorschoten is once again organizing an Evening of Lights at Rosenburgh Cemetery on Friday, December 8. The Evening of Lights offers a moment of remembrance and warmth—a ray of light during the dark days.
The cemetery will be lit on Friday, December 8, between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Family members may visit the cemetery and place lit candles on the graves. Visitors may bring their own candles or receive one from the cemetery.
Coffee and tea are served in the cemetery’s auditorium, and music is playing. Attendees who have buried or cremated a loved one elsewhere can light a candle here.
Theme
The theme of this year’s Evening of Lights is “shadow”—a shadow that is always with you.
Remembering Deceased Children
Prior to the Evening of Lights, the municipality of Voorschoten—as in previous years—is offering everyone the opportunity to attend a brief gathering in memory of children who have passed away. This special gathering will take place from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the cemetery auditorium (doors open at 5:45 p.m.). The children will be honored and remembered by lighting a candle, saying their names, listening to music, and sharing words of comfort and poems. Brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents, and other family members who feel a connection are welcome to attend.
Would you like to attend the children’s memorial service? If so, please register in advance at Lichtjesavond@voorschoten.nl. Please include in your email the number of people attending, as well as the name of the deceased child and their dates of birth and death. You may also include a photo of the child. Registration closes at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.
