Candlelight Evening at Rosenburgh Cemetery

On December 9, the municipality is organizing a “Evening of Lights” at Rosenburgh Cemetery to give people more opportunities to visit the cemetery during the dark winter days. People also tend to think more often of their deceased loved ones as the year comes to a close. The need to spend a moment with that person is therefore particularly strong. A moment of reflection and a warm welcome at the cemetery can provide a ray of hope during this time.

On Friday, December 9, between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., the cemetery will be illuminated, and family members will have the opportunity to place lit candles on the graves as a heartfelt tribute to their loved ones. Visitors may bring their own candles or receive one from the cemetery.

Coffee and tea will be served in the cemetery’s auditorium, and music will be playing. Attendees who have buried or cremated a loved one elsewhere are welcome to light a candle here.

Theme

This year’s theme will be “message in a bottle.” You can place a note you’ve written yourself to the person you wish to remember inside a bottle (these bottles measure 7x3 cm). Please bring the note with you, and we’ll provide the bottle.

Remembering Deceased Children

As in previous years, prior to the Evening of Lights, the municipality is offering everyone the opportunity to attend a brief gathering in memory of children who have passed away.

This special gathering will take place from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the cemetery auditorium (doors open at 5:45 p.m.). The children will be honored and remembered by lighting a candle, saying their names, listening to music, and hearing words of comfort and poems. Brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents, and other family members who feel a connection are welcome to attend.

The pain of loss, the loss of hope, and dreams that never came true remain the same and connect people who otherwise don’t know each other.

We ask that you register for the Memorial Service atLichtjesavond@voorschoten.nl(please indicate the number of people attending, the name of the deceased child, and their date of birth and date of death). You may also include a photo of the deceased child and specify any piece of music you would like to hear.
