Kwadraad, housing authorities, and the municipality of Voorschoten sign an agreement on neighborhood mediation

Neighborhood mediation helps prevent conflicts between neighbors. Volunteers from Kwadraad, a social work organization, advise residents on what they can do themselves to address neighborhood disturbances. They also explain how residents can engage an independent mediator. An independent mediator meets with both neighbors to help them reach clear and effective agreements. In 2023, Kwadraad had already facilitated 34 cases.

Today, Kwadraad, the De Sleutels Housing Association, Woonzorg Nederland, Rijnhart Wonen, and the municipality of Voorschoten signed an agreement at City Hall. As a result, neighborhood mediation is now available free of charge to all residents of Voorschoten. This includes homeowners, tenants in the public housing sector, and tenants in the private sector. The agreement is valid through the end of 2027.

“Because everyone in Voorschoten should be able to live comfortably, we believe it’s important that this service be available to all residents,” says Martijn Zwebe, acting team leader for Public Order and Safety at the municipality of Voorschoten. “As a municipality, we already had an agreement with Kwadraad. Under the new agreement with five partners, the housing associations and the municipality are now joint contracting authorities.”
