Royal Honor for Mr. Hiddo Schultz

On Saturday, June 25, Mayor Nadine Stemerdink presented a royal decoration to Mr. Hiddo Schultz aboard a train chartered specifically for this occasion by the Stoomstichting, traveling from Voorschoten to Haarlem. This took place during an outing for the 60 volunteers of the Stoomstichting Rotterdam. His wife, two daughters, and son-in-law were also present at this festive ceremony. Mr. Schultz has been appointed a Member of the Order of Orange-Nassau.

Mr. Schultz has been a volunteer at the Stoomstichting in Rotterdam since 1984. He worked in the workshop there and served as a fireman on steam locomotives. Since his retirement, he can often be found in the workshop in Rotterdam four days a week; he serves as the work coordinator and is also a go-to person for the other volunteers. He also acts as a mentor to the young volunteers. Until a year ago, he was chairman of the board. He is currently a very active member of the technical committee. Mr. Schultz is also responsible for purchasing materials; he negotiates very effectively and never pays a cent too much!

In 2018, Mr. Schultz served as chair of the Nieuw Kralingen working group for three years. This working group was established to assist the Stoomstichting in developing plans for a new residential neighborhood of approximately 850 homes, a project that would have had a number of very adverse consequences for the Stoomstichting. He distinguished himself in this role as someone with boundless dedication, expertise, tenacity, a vision for the future, and, above all, a man with a concern for his fellow human beings, the environment, and the Stoomstichting’s place in the bigger picture.
Mr. Schultz serves as the contact person for Pameijer, an organization that seeks job placements for people who are distanced from the labor market. He is deeply committed to giving everyone a chance.
