Royal Medal of Honor for the Laurentius Music Association

The Laurentius Music Association will celebrate its 100th anniversary on September 21, 2023. In honor of this anniversary, the association received a Royal Medal of Honor from Mayor Nadine Stemerdink on September 23. The presentation took place during the anniversary military parade on the Voorschoten ’97 sports field.

The Laurentius Music Association is a very active organization and currently has about 100 members and several orchestras, of which Drumfanfare Laurentius and Jong Laurentius are the best known. They have been performing at various events for many years. They have also performed at various taptoes both in the Netherlands and abroad. The Drumfanfare has now taken on the challenge of competing in the “march” category at the World Music Competition in Kerkrade six times. In 2017, they won a gold and a silver medal there.

The Laurentius Music Association is well-known in the region. The association’s members bring joy to the general public through their music and performances. Moreover, it is a wonderful association for its own members, many of whom come from families that have been members for generations.

Royal Medal of Honor

The Royal Medal of Honor is an award presented by His Majesty the King to associations and institutions that have been in existence for at least 50 years (or a subsequent multiple of 25 years). The activities of the association or institution must be of a philanthropic, scientific, cultural, social, or athletic nature.

The association or institution must be held in high regard in terms of its nature, scope, and stability, and must occupy a generally recognized position among similar municipal, regional, or national associations. Furthermore, the association or institution must have distinguished itself in its field. Both the association or institution and its board members must be of good repute.
