Residents are invited to contribute their ideas on the guiding principles for the heat transition
The Municipality of Voorschoten would like to engage with residents in a dialogue about the heat transition. Residents will have the opportunity to contribute their ideas on the guiding principles for the transition to a collective heat supply system and the establishment of a regional heating company. The meeting will take place on Monday, February 17, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the council chamber of City Hall. It is also possible to submit written comments.

“As a municipality, we have both the ambition and the legal obligation to take the lead in the heating transition,” explains Alderman Hubert Schokker. “This means we must make our town natural gas-free by switching to more sustainable heating methods. For a large part of Voorschoten, district heating—that is, heating via a heat network—is the most affordable solution. We are also focusing on this in our so-called Heat Transition Vision 1.1. Now that an important step in the process is approaching, we would like to call on the knowledge and enthusiasm of our residents.”
Contributing Ideas in the Council Chamber
On May 15, the city council will make a decision regarding the guiding principles for the transition to a district heating system and the establishment of a regional heating company. To prepare for that decision, the city would like to engage in dialogue with residents. This could include residents who have knowledge of the district heating transition, such as district heating networks, heat sources, or neighborhood-based approaches. It could also include residents who are interested as future users. The meeting will take place on Monday, February 17, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the council chamber of City Hall. Those interested can register through February 9 by sending an email to duurzaam@voorschoten.nl.
Submit a written response
Because the number of spots is limited, the municipality will select participants from among the applicants. In doing so, it will aim to ensure broad participation from diverse backgrounds. Residents who are unable to attend or who do not receive an invitation to the meeting can still share their ideas with the municipality. From February 14 through March 2, the draft framework of principles will be available for review at www.voorschoten.nl/aardgasvrij. During this period, any resident of Voorschoten can submit comments and ideas via duurzaam@voorschoten.nl.
All ideas compiled
Where possible, the municipality will incorporate the ideas directly into the document on which the city council will make a decision on May 15. In addition, all ideas will be compiled and summarized in an appendix for the city council, so that council members can take them into account when making their decision.
