Illegal fireworks Found in a Home
Last night, police seized illegal fireworks during a search of a home in Voorschoten. The police were tipped off about the illegal fireworks by special enforcement officers.
Last Monday, the special enforcement officers stopped several 12-year-olds who were setting off illegal fireworks. Upon further questioning, it turned out that one of them had stored even more illegal fireworks in the attic of his home. The municipal enforcement officers then contacted the police fireworks unit and the parents. The police decided to search the home and confiscate everything. One boy received a warning.
Great result
“This is a great result of having our special enforcement officers on the streets and residents being vigilant in reporting disturbances,” says Mayor Nadine Stemerdink. “Kudos to the joint efforts of the special enforcement officers and the police. Together, we’re ensuring a safe New Year’s Eve.”
Fireworks Rules
In the Netherlands, it is illegal to possess or set off illegal fireworks. These include, among others, “cobras,” nitrate-based fireworks, “butterflies,” “avalanche rockets,” “mortar bombs,” and “strikers.” This year, fireworks may be set off from 6:00 p.m. on December 31 through 2:00 a.m. on January 1 (with the exception of fireworks in category F1, which may also be set off outside these times).
