Idea for a neighborhood or community

Neighborhood initiatives are designed to improve the quality of life in neighborhoods. If you have an idea for making your neighborhood a better place to live, you can work with other residents to develop and implement it.

  • improve public spaces
  • promote social connections in the neighborhood
  • improve communication and participation in the neighborhood
  • to increase (social) security or the ability to cope with nuisances
  • create a community garden
  • buy gardening tools together to maintain the park
  • organize a neighborhood market or neighborhood concert
  • Organize a training session for volunteers to assist with a project providing supported housing for mental health clients in the neighborhood
  • additional lighting in areas perceived as unsafe
  • neighborhood WhatsApp group

How does it work?

For example, the municipality supports the idea by helping you apply for the necessary permits. The implementation of the project is entirely the responsibility of the project initiators.

The ideas are reviewed on a regular basis, and we will contact you during this process.

The neighborhood manager engages with neighborhood residents, associations, partners, and colleagues; encourages initiatives; and assesses whether ideas and plans are feasible and practical within a neighborhood.

What do I need?

Criteria for evaluating a neighborhood idea.

  • The initiative improves the quality of life in the neighborhood and increases residents' involvement in their living environment.
  • The initiative is intended for a group of residents (collective). Initiatives aimed at personal gain are not eligible.
  • The application must comply with applicable laws and municipal policy.
  • There is clarity regarding the feasibility of the initiative and the commitment of the residents.
  • The initiative must not result in a structural contribution from the municipality; it must be a one-time grant.
  • The basic premise is that the organizers themselves will manage the project and are responsible for any necessary repairs. Future management aspects can be worked out as part of the plan.
