Lease agreement between ice skating club and municipality paves the way for a combined rink
The Municipality of Voorschoten signed a new lease agreement with the Voorschoten Ice Skating Club yesterday. This means the ice skating club can begin construction of a multi-purpose rink—a paved ice rink that can also be used for inline skating.

The Voorschoten Skating Club aims to build a multi-purpose rink by the end of 2026. Because a multi-purpose rink freezes over more quickly, residents and visitors will be able to skate on natural ice more often. In the summer, they can inline skate on the same rink. For the Voorschoten Skating Club, the multi-purpose rink is a crucial step toward providing the club with year-round space for training, youth activities, and club life.
Partly thanks to sports facility policy
“We’ve been talking about a combined rink for years,” says Alderman Hubert Schokker. “In recent months, members of the Voorschoten Ice Skating Club have really stepped up their efforts, which means it’s finally going to happen. The IJsclub views the agreement as a major breakthrough that will allow them to capitalize on that effort. This progress is partly due to the sports facilities policy that the city council adopted last year, which established a subsidy program for sports initiatives like this one. I’m looking forward to the moment when people of all ages start skating their very first laps here.”
A Huge Step
Freek Bomhof, president of the Voorschoten Skating Club: “With this agreement, we’re taking a huge step toward a future-proof skating and inline skating club. With a combined track, we can skate more often, remain attractive to young people, and keep skating alive as a club sport in Voorschoten. The fact that this is now possible is the result of years of dedication by our volunteers, in close collaboration with the municipality.”
Information Session on May 12
The signing took place at the clubhouse on Anthonie van Leeuwenhoekkade. The Voorschoten Skating Club will also be holding an informational meeting for residents there on May 12 at 7:30 p.m. During this meeting, there will be time to explain the design. The plans for the future expansion of the skating club into a skating and inline skating club will also be discussed.
