Roll Up Your Sleeves for National Cleanup Day

Cleaning up litter throughout the Netherlands. That is the goal of the National Cleanup Day on Saturday, March 18. The municipality of Voorschoten is also participating. Between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., every resident can pick up a litter picker at the information booth on Treubplein.

A banana peel can lie on the street for a year. A piece of spit-out gum takes twenty years to break down. A plastic bottle never does. Litter has harmful effects on people, animals, and plants. At first glance, Voorschoten looks clean, but if you look closely, you’ll see quite a bit of litter lying around.

“Volunteer litter pickers and field staff work hard every day to keep the public spaces in our village clean,” says Councilman Hans van der Elst. “But we could really use some extra help. That’s why I’m calling on all residents, schools, businesses, and sports clubs to lend a hand this coming Saturday.”

National Cleanup Day is a great opportunity to raise awareness of the problem of litter. At the information booth on Treubplein, every resident of Voorschoten—adults and children alike—can pick up a litter picker between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Together, we can make Voorschoten cleaner.
