Get a free tree from the Tree Hub
Do something special for nature this fall and plant a tree. After all, a tree lets you enjoy your garden even more every year. On November 6, between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., you can pick up a free tree from the tree hub on Rosenburgherlaan in Voorschoten.

The trees in the tree hub are saplings that sprouted on their own; they were “rescued” last year from places where there was no room for them and were therefore temporarily planted in the tree hub. The Tree Hub mainly has fig saplings and a small number of mulberry saplings available. Now that they’ve grown to 100 to 120 cm tall, it’s time to find a permanent home for them. This is a great opportunity for you to adopt one of these saplings.
Finding a spot for it in the fall
The best time to plant trees is when they are dormant. That’s usually in the fall, winter (as long as there’s no frost), and early spring. By planting them in the fall, the roots have the entire winter to establish themselves firmly in the ground. By the way, did you know that a single tree provides as much cooling as ten air conditioners? Trees cool the air by providing shade and through the evaporation of water from their leaves, which cools the surrounding air. All types of trees provide cooling, though trees with a large, dense canopy are particularly effective at it.
Want to participate?
It’s important to consider in advance how large the tree will eventually grow. Use the Tree Finder on the meerbomen.nu website to see if a mulberry or fig tree is suitable for your garden. If so, send an email to operatiesteenbreek@voorschoten.nl and let us know which tree species you’d like to plant in your garden. You’ll receive a response within a week, in which we’ll let you know if the tree is available for you. Act fast, because once they’re gone, they’re gone.
Please note! Due to its great success, it is no longer possible to sign up for a tree.
