#Green Light for Every Child Waiting for a Foster Family

Foster Care Week runs from November 3 to 10. With the #groenlicht campaign, municipalities and youth welfare organizations are raising awareness about the importance of having more foster parents. Voorschoten is also participating. That’s why the town hall has been lit up in green since yesterday. In this way, the municipality wants to thank the foster parents in Voorschoten for their important contribution and draw attention to the children who are still waiting for a foster family.

Councilman Paul de Bruijn: “It’s a very difficult situation when a child is removed from their home, and it’s not something that should be done lightly. But if it ultimately turns out that removal is unavoidable, then a foster family is a valuable form of care. With a stable home, these children have a better chance of developing well. I am very grateful to the families in our village who are taking in children, but I also see that there is still a greater need for families who can (temporarily) take in a child. Do you have room in your home and in your family, but still have questions? That’s understandable, so please contact the staff at Pleegzorg Nederland—and who knows, maybe you can make a difference, too.”

There are currently about 25 foster families in Voorschoten. However, there is still a shortage, and many children are still waiting for a suitable foster family. The COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t helped either, as people have been more cautious about taking children into their homes. Through the Openjewereld.nu campaign, Pleegzorg Nederland invites everyone to step into the world of foster care. In the Hollands Midden region, for example, there is a need for foster parents who can step in during a crisis and provide a safe place for as long as necessary. But there is also a need for foster parents who are willing to care for older children, starting around age 10.
