Excavation notification

If you are excavating mechanically, you are legally required to submit a Excavation notification to the Kadaster in advance. By doing this, you:

  • help prevent excavation damage and hazardous situations in the surrounding area
  • contribute to the safety of the excavator

For an area measuring 500 by 500 metre or smaller, a single excavation notification is sufficient. For larger areas, submit multiple notifications or opt for a route notification. 

How does it work?

Following the excavation notification, you will digitally receive information regarding the location of underground cables and pipelines. You must use this information to excavate with Health. This information must be present on-site while excavation work is taking place.

If a pipeline carrying hazardous materials or a major utility network is located within the excavation area, the network operator may impose precautionary measures.

What to do?

You submit the notification to the Kadaster.

  • For a one-time excavation notification, please use the KLIC Excavation notification form.
  • If you submit notifications on a regular basis, you must register as a customer of Kadaster-KLIC and use Mijn Kadaster.

If the excavation location is in a safety zone, a different procedure applies.

How long does it take?

You can report mechanical excavation work no earlier than twenty and no later than two working days prior to commencement.

Extra information

If you do not yet know when you will be excavating and require a longer preparation time, please submit an Orientation request. Please note: you are not yet permitted to excavate using the information received from an Orientation request. Once the start date of the excavation work is known, you must still submit an excavation notification. It is therefore recommended to submit an excavation notification within twenty days prior to the start of the work.
