The Municipality of Voorschoten is committed to creating a community where everyone can participate and feel valued. Through the “Voorschoten Goed voor Elkaar” policy plan, we are guiding our efforts within the “ social domain ” framework—from health and well-being to employment, income, and support. We are building on our existing direction and will continue to focus on four key themes:
Healthy living and growing up
Everyone in Voorschoten should be able to live a healthy and resilient life, from young to old. The municipality stimulates a healthy lifestyle, promotes mental Health, and focuses on equal opportunities. For example, efforts are made to prevent school dropout and low-literacy through preschool education. Young people with mental health issues can turn to a youth practice supporter via their general practitioner. Work is also being done to prevent loneliness, substance use, and social-societal disadvantages.
Living environment
A safe, green, and accessible living environment is of great importance for well-being and mutual encounters. Municipality Voorschoten therefore invests in neighbourhoods where people can pleasantly live, exercise, and reside. Examples of this include improving sports locations and walking routes. In addition, neighbourhoods with extra challenges receive a targeted, customized approach tailored to the needs of residents.
Work, income, and debts
Every resident must be able to participate in society according to their own ability. The municipality supports residents with financial worries and stimulates independence and participation. For example, there are consultation hours in the library regarding financial matters, carried out in collaboration with Kredietbank Nederland. Furthermore, via Stichting Leergeld, it is ensured that children can participate in education, sports, and cultural activities, even when things are financially difficult at home.
Help and support
Residents who require assistance must be able to rely on appropriate and timely support. The municipality first looks at what is possible within the immediate surroundings and calls upon specialized assistance if necessary. The municipal access team discusses with residents what support is needed, ranging from home adaptations to day-care activities. In addition, shelter for homeless families has been established in the former Marijkeschool. Two small-scale housing facilities, the so-called "skew houses", are also under development for protected living.

In Voorschoten we care for one another. Together with residents, volunteers, healthcare providers, and social organizations, we are building a healthy, safe, inclusive, and liveable village. A Voorschoten where everyone can participate, feels seen, and receives the right help at the right time.
