City Takes Important Step Toward New Sports Center with a Swimming Pool and Sports Hall
A new sports center with a swimming pool and sports hall at Adegeest Sports Park. With this project, the municipality of Voorschoten aims to boost its sports facilities. In addition, the municipality is planning a new gymnasium in the village center for physical education classes. On Thursday, December 11, the council will decide whether these plans can move forward.

To implement the municipality’s sports facility policy, the council decided on April 3 that a new building for Het Wedde swimming pool must be constructed as soon as possible. It also decided to keep the pool open until then, no later than 2040. The council selected Adegeest Sports Park, near the existing swimming pool, as the preferred location. Building a new sports center is quite a challenge, however, because Het Wedde will remain in use during construction. Furthermore, the Corbulo Tunnel runs underneath it.
Fun and important
“The preliminary study by Slangen + Koenis Architects shows that integration into the Adegeest sports park is possible,” says Alderman Hubert Schokker. “Moreover, by temporarily diverting gas from the existing swimming pool, a smart solution has been devised to address grid congestion. That’s good news for young and old in our village, even in the long term. After all, exercise isn’t just fun—it’s also very important for our health. I’m looking forward to the committee meeting where the sports center is on the agenda.”
Business Case
The municipality has developed the site selection based on a business case. The proposal now is to draw up a program of requirements, a conceptual design, and a preliminary design for a new sports center featuring a swimming pool and a 48-meter-long sports hall. For physical education classes and sports clubs, the municipality is considering a sports hall with two sections in the center. This hall will then replace the outdated De Vliethorst sports hall.
