The Municipality of Voorschoten is looking for extra help for the House of Representatives election

The municipality of Voorschoten is looking for additional volunteers for the House of Representatives election. On Wednesday, November 22, volunteers are needed to staff the various polling stations and to serve as vote counters who will tally the votes by party list at those stations. On Thursday, November 23, volunteers are needed to serve as vote counters at a central location in Voorschoten to tally the votes by party list and by candidate.

The early House of Representatives election will take place on Wednesday, November 22. Residents of Voorschoten can cast their ballots at fifteen polling stations. We therefore need polling station staff from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Afterward, we are looking for volunteers to count the votes by party at the polling stations. You’ll be on duty from 8:45 p.m. until the counting is complete. Finally, we’re looking for volunteers to count the votes by candidate at a central location. This will take place the following day from 9:00 a.m. to approximately 5:00 p.m.

A core group of experienced volunteers

“For years now, we’ve been able to count on a core group of experienced volunteers,” says Mayor Nadine Stemerdink. “They ensure that the process and the vote counting at the polling stations and city hall run smoothly for us. To make sure everything goes smoothly again this year, we’d like to increase the number of polling station staff and vote counters. We really need that extra help. That’s why we’re calling on residents to sign up. I look forward to getting this big job done together!”

An Essential Task for a Democratic Society

Poll workers are required to complete an e-learning course. On the evening of the election or the following day, vote counters will receive instructions from the polling station chairperson. It’s also important that you enjoy taking on this essential task for our democratic society, that you can work meticulously, and that you’re persistent. Final instructions regarding times and location will be sent to you in your appointment letter. Incidentally, while we commonly refer to these roles as “volunteers,” you are technically considered an employee, partly because you receive compensation.
