The Municipality of Voorschoten Designates Fireworks-Free Zones

Last month, the Voorschoten City Council made a decision regarding fireworks-free zones for the upcoming New Year’s Eve celebrations. Residents are not permitted to set off consumer fireworks at eight locations.

From 6:00 p.m. on December 31 to 2:00 a.m. on January 1, residents celebrating New Year’s Eve are permitted to set off consumer fireworks. This is stipulated in the national Fireworks Decree. However, to prevent danger, damage, or nuisance, municipalities may grant exceptions. In so-called fireworks-free zones, residents are not allowed to set off fireworks. In Voorschoten, this applies to eight locations.

“Our fellow villagers in nursing homes and the animals at the petting zoo, in particular, deserve extra protection,” explains Mayor Nadine Stemerdink. “That’s why, in consultation with the site managers, we’ve designated eight fireworks-free zones. I’m confident that, together, we’ll enjoy a safe and festive New Year’s Eve.”

The following fireworks-free zones have been designated for the upcoming New Year's Eve celebrations:

  • The area immediately surrounding Burgemeester Berkhout Park
  • The area around the town hall at Leidseweg 25, including the area around the Kruispunt Voorschoten
  • The area immediately surrounding the Van der Valk Hotel at Veurseweg 180
  • The area immediately surrounding the Adegeest residential care center at Bachlaan 21
  • The area immediately surrounding the Topaz Vlietwijk nursing home at 2 Professor Einsteinlaan
  • The area immediately surrounding the Topaz Foreschate nursing home at Rouboslaan 1
  • The area immediately surrounding the Marente Oud Bijdorp nursing home at Veurseweg 3
  • The area immediately surrounding the Voorschoten petting zoo on the Rosenburgh Estate
