The Municipality of Voorschoten is exploring ways to collaborate with residents

Democracy doesn’t just take place at City Hall. Residents also discuss, make decisions, and get involved, helping to ensure that Voorschoten is a pleasant town to live, work, do business, and study in. Because the municipality of Voorschoten wants to further strengthen this collaboration, it is asking its residents to participate in the Local Democracy Quick Scan.

The Local Democracy Quick Scan is an online questionnaire developed by the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG). The tool helps identify residents’ needs, whether they relate to participation and communication or to dealing with community initiatives.

“This survey from the VNG provides insight into how we can involve our residents even more in what the municipality does,” says Mayor Nadine Stemerdink. “More than sixty municipalities have already done this. Here in Voorschoten, too, we value knowing what matters to our residents. That’s why we’re asking our residents to fill out the survey. We look forward to receiving a good number of valuable responses.”

Specific Areas for Improvement

The municipality of Voorschoten aims to strengthen its administrative capacity. Collaboration with residents is a key part of this effort. The Local Democracy Quick Scan will help the municipality achieve this goal. Based on the responses provided by residents, the municipality will identify specific areas for improvement and implement the necessary changes.
