The Municipality of Voorschoten is participating in the Rhineland Architecture Prize

This year, the municipality of Voorschoten is once again participating in the biennial Rhineland Architecture Prize (RAP071). Anyone may submit projects until 12:00 p.m. on June 19. Building review committees and the mayor and aldermen of the nine participating municipalities have also been asked to do so.

Both large and small new construction projects are eligible for the RAP071. Architecturally interesting reconstruction or repurposing projects, bridges, and other distinctive infrastructure designs may also be submitted. Eligible projects must have been completed between July 1, 2021, and September 1, 2023, and be located within one of the participating municipalities: Leiden, Leiderdorp, Katwijk, Lisse, Hillegom, Teylingen, Wassenaar, or Voorschoten. Furthermore, the project owner must agree to a potential jury visit.

Comfortable living and beautiful architecture

“As a municipality in the Leiden region, we’re happy to participate in the Rijnland Architecture Prize,” says Alderman Hans van der Elst. “It goes without saying! Just like the other municipalities, we’re committed to creating pleasant living environments and beautiful architecture. Think of Het Fortuyn in Voorschoten, Park Beresteyn, Huize Bijdorp, and so on. We can’t nominate those projects yet because they haven’t been completed, but as a municipal executive, we’re going to give serious thought to the finest achievements of the past two years. It would be great if architects and residents would also like to submit nominations!”

About the Architecture Award

RAP071 was established to recognize and promote notable architecture in the Rhineland region. The award is presented every other year and consists of a People’s Choice Award and a Jury Prize. The jury selects the finalists from all entries, which will be announced on July 5. The final winners will be announced on October 11 during a festive awards ceremony at Biopartner 5. In 2021, Dakwoning van Zijdekwartier won the Jury Prize. Biopartner 5 by Popma ter Steege took home the People’s Choice Award.
