The Municipality of Voorschoten is allocating additional funds for sustainability loans

Private homeowners who want to make their homes more sustainable can take out a sustainability loan from the municipality of Voorschoten. This loan is available for measures that save energy and generate renewable energy, as well as for modifications needed due to climate change, such as a green roof. The loan comes with favorable terms. The municipality of Voorschoten has allocated 600,000 euros for this purpose.

Starting in 2020, homeowners have been able to take out a sustainability loan. However, due to high demand, the fund was quickly depleted. Thanks to a new deposit of 600,000 euros into the fund, the municipality can now accept new applications.

Solar panels, insulation measures, and sustainable heating

“Many residents are using the loan to purchase solar panels,” says Councilman Hubert Schokker. “Although solar panels are usually financially attractive, the investment often acts as a barrier to making the purchase. With the sustainability loan, we’re lowering that barrier. We’re also seeing that the program is increasingly being used for insulation measures or sustainable heating. These, too, are important steps toward a sustainable Voorschoten. It’s great that we can support residents with these sustainability loans.”

About 70 loans

Based on an average loan of 9,000 euros, the municipality can issue approximately 70 loans. Loans up to 7,500 euros must be repaid within ten years. For loans above that amount, the repayment period is fifteen years. The maximum loan amount is 25,000 euros, and the minimum is 2,500 euros. National Heat Fund

For residents with a combined income of up to 60,000 euros per year, it is more advantageous to take out an energy-saving loan from the National Heat Fund. This is because the interest rate is 0%.
