The Municipality of Voorschoten is helping 800 households save energy
No fewer than 800 households in Voorschoten participated in an energy-saving campaign organized by the municipality over the past five months. They received free advice from an energy coach with the organization Klimaatroute. The energy coaches made home visits for this purpose. The campaign targeted households that might be experiencing energy poverty.
“I’m glad to see that so many households have taken advantage of this opportunity,” says Councilman Hubert Schokker. “Thanks to the campaign, they were able to take advantage of free energy-saving products such as LED bulbs and draft stoppers. Ultimately, this results in lower annual energy costs and reduced CO₂ emissions. That’s not only great for the households themselves, but also for the future of Voorschoten as a sustainable village.”
Energy-saving measures
During the visit, the energy coaches conducted a brief home assessment of the energy situation. They also helped residents choose any suitable, small-scale energy-saving measures. For example, draft stoppers and radiator foil were installed in some homes. The energy-saving campaign, in which the municipality of Voorschoten collaborates with the housing associations Rijnhart Wonen, De Sleutels, and Woonzorg, was also organized in 2023. At that time, 300 households had already participated. This means that a total of 1,100 households have now received help with saving energy. Together, these households save 100,000 kilograms of CO₂ per year.

Satisfied participants
A satisfaction survey shows that the initiative received an average rating of 8.2. Participants reported that they found the energy coaches to be knowledgeable and helpful. One of them said, “The energy coach provided clear explanations and useful tips. Thanks to their advice, I can now easily save energy.”
