Effective October 1, the Municipality of Voorschoten will accept debit card payments at the municipal service counter

Starting October 1, payments for services provided by the Civil Affairs Department at the Voorschoten municipal office—such as passports and driver’s licenses—will be accepted by debit card.

The municipality made this decision primarily to enhance the safety of its employees. Keeping large amounts of cash at municipal service counters is not advisable. However, if there are circumstances that prevent someone from paying by debit card, that resident can indicate this when scheduling an appointment online. The municipality will then ensure that sufficient change is available.

Debit Card Payments Offer Many Benefits

Paying by debit card offers more benefits than just ensuring the safety of counter staff. Debit card payments are also a more convenient and reliable way to combat potential fraud and abuse. Furthermore, the municipality aims to accommodate its residents by reducing the number of transactions involving cash. Most people carry less cash these days, and physical contact is being minimized, which can make residents feel safer. The municipality is therefore asking the residents of Voorschoten for their understanding regarding the new measure requiring debit card payments at the municipal service counter, effective October 1.
