The Municipality of Voorschoten is offering additional childcare spots at Van der Valk

Starting Saturday, October 1, 2022, the municipality of Voorschoten will provide 80 additional beds for status holders and family members joining them at the Van der Valk De Gouden Leeuw hotel. This brings the total number of beds for (crisis) emergency shelter to 200. The municipality of Voorschoten has informed the COA that, with this expansion, the maximum capacity for (crisis) emergency shelter in Voorschoten has been reached. The temporary shelter will remain in place until February 1, 2023.

The target group for the expansion is the same group that is already staying at the hotel. This week, a number of new status holders and family members have arrived at the Van der Valk Hotel. It is not yet known when more new status holders and family members will arrive. This depends on the outflow from Ter Apel.

Severe shortage of childcare spots

There is currently a severe nationwide shortage of housing units at asylum seeker centers (AZCs). Many spots in the COA’s asylum seeker centers are still being “held” by status holders who are waiting for permanent housing. By organizing temporary housing, the municipality of Voorschoten is helping to relieve the pressure on the AZCs and accelerate the integration of status holders into Dutch society.
