City Launches Awareness Campaign on Dog-Related Nuisances

The municipality believes it is important that everyone in Voorschoten feels comfortable and can enjoy the public spaces. And, of course, dogs are also part of the Voorschoten community. They bring joy, companionship, and a lively atmosphere to the neighborhood. However, dogs can also cause nuisances. Dog waste in public spaces is a major annoyance, and dogs running loose can be frightening for some people. 

For this reason, the municipality will be informing dog owners in the coming period about—and enforcing compliance with—the requirement to clean up after their dogs, the leash law outside of designated off-leash areas, and the requirement to carry valid identification. 

If a law enforcement officer or municipal enforcement officer approaches a dog owner regarding a violation, that person must be able to show proof of identity. We’ve noticed that many dog owners leave their ID at home because they’re just taking the dog out for a quick walk. This makes it very time-consuming to verify the person’s identity. With this campaign, the municipality aims to raise awareness among dog owners so that we can reduce nuisances and improve the quality of life.
