City Presents Ambitious Budget for 2027–2030
Making substantial investments in facilities that residents of the municipality of Voorschoten will enjoy for decades to come. That is the course set by the “ executive board ” for the coming years. These ambitions are further elaborated in the multi-year balanced budget for 2027–2030.
“We are firmly prioritizing three projects,” says Pieter Varekamp, Alderman . “First, the new sports center with a sports hall and swimming pool. Second, the Fortgens School. And third, the new “ town hall ” in the Zilverfabriek. Because of their scale and impact, we call these flagship projects. At the same time, we’re working on other important challenges in our village, such as housing construction, a robust sewer system, green spaces, traffic safety, and equal opportunities.”
Keeping Things in Order
The costs of the projects are putting a strain on the municipality’s finances. Alderman Varekamp: “We’re sailing close to the wind to keep things in order. The 2027–2030 multi-year budget is balanced. With this, we’re laying the foundation for a healthy, safe, socially inclusive, and future-proof Voorschoten.”
Nine " programme"
The budget includes nine “ programme.” For example, in the “ programme ” on Safety, the “ executive board ” outlines what it will do to combat crime, increase social safety on the streets, and further strengthen resilience and resistance. The “ programme ”social domain describes the focus on prevention and health. The “ programme ” on Traffic and Transportation addresses, among other things, the plan to enable the phased introduction of a 30 km/h speed limit.
Taking Advantage of Opportunities
In the “ programme : Housing and Construction” section, the “ executive board ” explains that it will continue to work on housing projects and that it will make greater use of options such as adding stories, subdividing properties, shared housing, and renting out guest rooms. Furthermore, the “ executive board ” is working on upgrading the electrical grid and preparing for a district heating network.
