City Receives Keys to the Zilverfabriek
Last week, the keys to the Zilverfabriek were handed over. With this, the building officially became the property of the municipality of Voorschoten. Now, the project can move forward with its next phase.
Alderman Pieter Varekamp looks forward to the next steps with confidence: “The coming period will be focused on further planning, optimizing the requirements programme , and selecting an architect. In this way, we are working toward the renovation and sustainability upgrades of the Zilverfabriek and the creation of a future-proof town hall. By the end of March 2027, we’ll have a much clearer picture of what the facility will look like. At that point, we’ll also invite residents, the press, and other interested parties to a guided tour.”
Historic, accessible, and easy to reach
On June 4, 2026, the council decided that the municipality could purchase the Zilverfabriek to establish the new “ town hall ” there. The building holds great historical significance for Voorschoten, and it fits perfectly with the municipality’s vision: from service counters for residents and offices for civil servants to a council chamber with space for the press and the public. It will also house two social service organizations. The new town hall is easily accessible and open to everyone. It is scheduled to open its doors in 2028.
