City Proposes Eight New Paper Recycling Bins
In the 2021–2025 Raw Materials Plan, the municipality of municipal council decided to optimize the collection of waste paper and cardboard from high-rise buildings. Based on that decision, the municipality is installing eight new underground collection containers for waste paper and cardboard. This will make it easier for residents to sort and dispose of these materials separately.
The municipality has identified eight potential locations for the new containers: the corner of Frans Halsplantsoen and Johannes Vermeerplantsoen, the corner of Jan Steenlaan and Rembrandtlaan, the corner of Koperwieklaan and Zwaluwweg, the corner of Kramsvogelerf and Zwaluwweg, Hofvliet, Vlietzicht, Jan van Goyenplantsoen, and Aletta Jacobsplantsoen.
Saving on Raw Materials
“We already have 31 underground collection containers for waste paper and cardboard at 25 locations in Voorschoten,” explains Hubert Schokker, Alderman . “They’re mainly located in and around the ‘ centre ’ and near supermarkets and stores. With eight new containers, we’re expanding the collection capacity by nearly 30 percent, including areas outside the ‘ centre.’ This makes it easier for residents to dispose of waste paper and cardboard and helps us save even more on valuable raw materials.”
Selection Criteria
In selecting the eight locations, the municipality considered the underground infrastructure—including cables and pipes, trees, and parking spaces—walking distances for nearby residents, the visibility of the location, accessibility for the garbage truck, existing containers and areas for other types of waste and recyclables, and the coverage and distribution of underground collection containers for waste paper and cardboard throughout the municipality.
