Confidentiality of personal data
The municipality maintains your personal data in the Basic Registration of Persons (BRP). Various organizations can receive your personal data from the BRP . Which organizations these are depends in part on your personal situation—for example, whether you have children or a driver’s license. Find out which organizations can receive your personal data on the website of the Rijksoverheid.
If you do not want certain organisations to receive your personal data, you can request confidentiality from the municipality. You can also request this for your children under the age of 16.
How does it work?
If you prefer that your personal data is not shared with others, you can ask the municipality to keep your data confidential. You are always entitled to this confidentiality and do not need to provide a reason. Your personal data will then not be shared with:
- non-commercial organisations, such as sports and music clubs or charities;
- organizations that provide healthcare to patients in a facility;
- (following a balancing of interests) organisations that perform judicial activities;
- DE Stichting Interkerkelijke Ledenadministratie (SILA), which maintains member administration for religious denominations. Your data may still appear in the records of the SILA itself. If you want this data to be removed, please contact SILA or your religious denomination.
When confidentiality is applied, the municipality will only provide your data to mandatory authorities, such as the police, the judiciary, and the Tax and Customs Administration.
DE municipality never provides your personal data to:
- private individuals
- commercial institutions
What to do?
- Request confidentiality for your personal data from the municipality.
- You can terminate the confidentiality of your personal data at any time.
Moving to another municipality
If you have requested confidentiality and subsequently move to another municipality, you do not need to reapply for confidentiality.
What do I need?
You can only request confidentiality for:
- your own personal data, and
- DE personal data of your children up to 16 years of age.
Children aged 16 and older must submit a request for confidentiality themselves. Please include a copy of your proof of identity with your application.
How long does it take?
The municipality will process the confidentiality request within 5 working days.

Applying for confidentiality is free of charge.
